Fiedler Deutsch, LLP recently settled their client’s medical malpractice case for $7 million. Our client was a 49 year married father of two who went to a New York area hospital with anterior chest pain and dyspnea (difficulty breathing). A cardiac catheterization was performed and he was diagnosed with atherosclerotic heart disease of the coronary arteries. He had emergency coronary artery bypass surgery. Following the procedure, he became unstable, went into tachypena, acidosis, developed anemia, and went into cardiopulmonary arrest. Cardiac tamponade was diagnosed and emergency decompression was done at bedside. Unfortunately, severe neurological impairment followed as a result of cerebral anoxia/hypoxia (lack of oxygen to the brain) . Our client never woke up.
After reviewing the case and hiring multiple world renowned experts, Fielder Deutsch, LLP was able to prove that doctors involved in the care of our client were negligent in failing to timely identify and treat a bleed that occurred during the surgery. As a result of the medical malpractice, our client was left multiply handicapped, with altered level of consciousness, total immobility, cognitive and language compromise, respiratory compromise, swallowing dysfunction, and bowel and bladder incontinence. He will require around the clock care for the remainder of his life.
We were happy to obtain a settlement that will help bring justice to our client’s family and provide them will a level of financial stability going forward.
